Tips for a fun and safe 5K!

Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Torpy Park – downtown Minocqua
Race Village opens at 8:30am
Post-Race Dance Party to begin promptly after the run!

Parking

Limited parking will be available at Torpy Park. More parking will be available near the post office and city streets. Arrive early to allow time to get from your car to the race start. Race Village opens at 8:30am. Don’t miss out on the FUN! You may have to do some walking. To ensure we have a safe environment for our race participants, the course will be  closed to all but local traffic from 9am until after the race.

Race Etiquette & Policies

GOTR participants should wear their GOTR program t-shirts and arrive around 8:30 a.m. to check in at the table for their school and take advantage of the pre-race fun. There will be course maps and a schedule of the day’s events handed out at check-in.
To help facilitate a positive race experience for all runners and walkers, we ask that you practice standard 5k etiquette:
ALL race participants (girls, Running Buddies and all runners) are expected to wear the provided race bib. If you’re not wearing a race bib, you should not be running the course.

Please pass slower runners/walkers on the left.

If you see a runner who needs medical attention, please alert a Course Marshal, Bike Safety personnel or a Caped Crusaders. GOTR volunteers can be identifies by their bright green shirts.

No dogs may accompany runners/walkers in the 5k.

No bicycles are allowed on the race course (except for designated Bike Safety Marshals).

Strollers are allowed with the “pusher” of the stroller as a registered runner. The “rider” need not register.

iPods and other personal music players are highly discouraged. Running music-free helps to make the race safer and allows you to really take in the atmosphere of the race!

Weather Policy

We will run rain or shine, but we will delay the race if there is thunder, lightning or severe weather.
We will post an announcement on the Girls on the Run Northwoods website www.GOTRnorthwoods.org and our Facebook page “Girls on the Run of the Northwoods” if there is severe weather threatening the race. We will delay the start of the race (if necessary) up to one hour.

GOTR Gear for Sale

There will be GOTR head bands, magnets, buttons, and TUTUS available for sale, but there will NOT be a full line of GOTR gear (shirts, sweatshirts, jewelry, etc.) for sale at the Final 5K.
You can find a wide selection at our website: http://gotrnorthwoods.org/shop-gotr/. Be sure to enter in our council code (wi-3-230) so our council receives a portion of the profit.

Volunteers

About 50 people will help make our race run smoothly. TELL THEM “THANK YOU”!
It takes a lot of man/girl power to create an incredible race experience for the Girls on the Run 5k participants. We’ve had an overwhelming response from volunteers.
A huge thank you to the people who have signed up to volunteer and are committed to making this event and our program a success.

Thank you Volunteers!!!
