Giving Tuesday – December 3

It is our hope that people who believe in Girls on the Run will participate by donating through our website before the end of the year, but especially on December 3 when the nation participates in a national day of giving, #GivingTuesday.

New Director attends training

That’s our new Council Director, Stacey Pearce, in a pink program t-shirt, right next to Molly Barker, Founder of GOTR.
Stacey is attending training in Charlotte, NC, June 18-19 soaking up all kinds of great information and being inspired to lead our council in the years to come! Way to go, Stacey!

Marshfield Clinic, Ministry Health Care Donation

Marshfield Clinic and Ministry Health Care recently joined together to support the Girls on the Run of the Northwoods organization with a $1,000 contribution.

The donation will help fund scholarships for financially-challenged families, race expenses, healthy snacks, curriculum, program supplies, program and CPR training for coaches, operational costs and general implementation of the program.

BIG THANKS to our local health-smart sponsors!!!

Leaders on the Run

What a gift for our organization!!!

Our council’s proposal was selected by two VERY enthusiastic members of the 2012-2013 Class of Leadership Oneida County! Michelle Madl-Soehren and Val Foley will begin work in January on creating a new Manual/Orientation for our new board members. We are way excited to have them join us and hope we can find ways for them to incorporate the things they have learned in their program.
Welcome Val and Michelle!

Donate to the Shoe Fund!

About 20% of our girls came to practice last spring without a good pair of shoes to run in. With the help of our donors, our council provided a new pair of shoes for the girls whose families were unable to afford them. Please consider a donation to Girls on the Run to provide a pair of shoes or two.

Checks can be made payable to GIRLS ON THE RUN and mailed to:

Thank you, in advance, for your generosity!

Two ways you can help GOTR over Labor Day Weekend:

During the season, the girls learn about giving back to their community with various projects that they choose.  Now it’s our turn, as adults, to help them continue to impact their community.  There are two events at which we’ve been asked to assist.  Please consider volunteering!
1. First Annual Northwoods BAD DASH in Manitowish Waters-
The BAD DASH is a 4-mile Adventure Run taking place on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012. This run includes obstacles such as rope scrambles and mud runs and more!   In addition to GOTR, this event benefits the North Lakeland Discovery Center and the Manitowish Waters Chamber of Commerce.

Contact Mary Beth Leopold, MW Chamber Director 715-543-8488 and say that you’re with Girls on the Run.

2. Minocqua No Frills Marathon on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012-
This event is planned to accommodate those who aspire to run their first marathon, as well as veteran runners trying to better their times or qualify for Boston.  Event planners are asking for some girls and their parents to hand out water to the runners.  This is a great opportunity for our participants see adults struggle to attain their personal goal, just as they did during the GOTR season and at the Final 5K.

Contact Lynn by email: to volunteer.

Thanks for you help!!!

Spring 2012 GOTR Final 5K a BIG SUCCESS!!!!

It’s difficult to even begin to thank ALL of the volunteers who made the 2012 GOTR Final 5K a success, but here goes!!!!

First and foremost, our first-time race directors, Sarah K and Karen S did an ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING job!!!  New this year:  an truly meaningful Ojibwe blessing AND a great sound system provided by Duff Damos of WRLO radio AND a proper Finish Line!

Many other fabulous volunteers include:  COACHES, board members, Running Buddies, all of those who came out and worked on the day of the event…from AAUW members who provided the post-race refreshments to our photographer…from Wonder Girl to parents/other family & friends who ‘chipped in’ where needed…and let’s not forget the ALL the many supportive spectators!

Hope to post some pictures SOON!

Two of our AWESOME Lac du Flambeau GOTR girls, MacKenzee S and Lorrina B, presented a gift to Tribal Leader, Tom Maulson, as they asked him to consider attending our Final 5K on June 2 at LUHS.
